Guidelines

Each page of the sound catalogue gives access to:

  • the description of a sound / a sound effect and the corresponding playing technique.
  • the spectrogram of the sound / sound effect: time (duration in seconds) is shown on x axis, frequencies (0 to 20'000 Hertz) on y axis. Sound intensity is figured by colour intensity: a "warm" colour (red) corresponds to a strong sound intensity; a "cold" colour (light blue) indicates a low sound level; silence appears in dark blue.
  • audio files: the sounds can be listened separately in MP3 format (Listen) or downloaded separately or by category.
  • the common notation used to represent the sound / the sound effect.
  • new pages illustrating sub-categories of the sound / the sound effect considered.
